Leak Checking SMD Component Counter Reel Counter Machine
About This Leak-Checking SMD Reel Counter Machine
This is a bench machine for counting components that arrive on tape and reel. It reads the pockets as the tape is drawn through, so the count and the state of the tape are checked in the same pass rather than one after the other.
What separates it from a plain counter is the optical leak check. A reel that has been part issued, or one that has been put into storage with a gap in it, carries empty pockets, and a counter that only tallies pockets will report a figure that looks right while the tape is short. The optical frame works alongside the count, so an empty pocket is picked up at the point of counting.
A machine of this size is used at goods in, at line side, and before a reel goes back into storage.

Counting runs in both directions, so a reel that has been over issued as well as one that is short can be brought back to a known figure.
Missing Component Optical Detection & Dual Operating Modes
The optical frame is fitted to the machine at installation, and it is what gives the count a second reading on the tape. Pockets that carry no component are the failure this is aimed at: a reel can look full at a glance while several positions along it are empty.
Two modes cover the two ways a counter is used.
A Mode is the store issue mode. A target quantity is set before the tape is run, and the machine stops on its own when the count reaches that figure, which is the mode for issuing a fixed number of parts to a line.
M mode is the manual mode. Counting runs freely and stops when the stop button is pressed, which suits a stock take or a check on a reel whose quantity is not known.
Both modes work on the same run of tape, so the mode is chosen to suit the job rather than the component.
Tape Pitch Settings, Reel Diameter & Accessory Package
Eleven pitch positions are supported, from 2mm up to 56mm, which covers the narrow tapes used on the small chip reels through to the wider carrier tapes. The feeding plate takes a reel of up to 380mm across, so a full 15 inch reel sits on the machine, with the 7 inch and 13 inch reels used on most lines fitting well inside that figure.
The machine arrives as one set with a set of accessories, and those accessories are parts of the machine rather than spares: one instruction book, one optical frame, one power wire, two tow trays and two socket wrenches. The frame and the tow trays are the items the installation steps fit first, so they are worth checking off against the packing list before the machine is set down.
Setup follows two installation steps: the frame is fixed to the back of the machine with the hexagon socket screws, and the tow material discs are placed on the left and right heads and locked. On the operation side, the voltage is confirmed before the switch is turned on - 220V unless a different voltage has been asked for - and the hand screws on both sides are loosened to open the material tray supports, then tightened again.
Quality Standards, Barcode Integration & Packaging
Quality is recorded as Top, the condition as NEW, and the brand field as ODM, which is the value used where a standard model is supplied to a buyer's own specification. Where a machine is wanted with a change to the standard build, that is raised as an ODM requirement and reviewed before a quotation is put together.
A scanning gun and a barcode printer can be added to the machine, and a label can carry the quantity, the specification, the batch number, the time and the work number. That turns a count into a record that can be stuck on the reel, which is what keeps the figure traceable after the reel has left the bench.
Shipping is arranged on UPS, DHL or FedEx when the order is placed.

Frequently Asked Questions On SMD Component Counters
Q1: What does the leak check add to an ordinary counter?
A: Empty pockets are detected alongside the count, so a reel with a gap in it is not passed as a full one.
Q2: What is the difference between A mode and M mode?
A: A mode counts to a quantity set beforehand and stops there; M mode counts freely and stops when the stop button is pressed.
Q3: Which tape pitches does it handle?
A: Eleven positions between 2mm and 56mm.
Q4: How large a reel can be loaded?
A: Up to 380mm across, which takes a 15 inch reel.
Q5: What comes in the box?
A: The machine, an instruction book, the optical frame, a power wire, two tow trays and two socket wrenches.
Q6: Can the count be printed?
A: A scanning gun and a barcode printer can be added, and the label can carry quantity, specification, batch number, time and work number.
