The Samsung SM481 is a surface mount technology (SMT) pick and place machine designed for electronic assembly production lines. Originally developed by Samsung, this model is also referenced under the Hanwha brand following the acquisition of Samsung’s SMT equipment business. It performs automated component pickup and placement onto printed circuit boards (PCBs), supporting mass assembly for consumer electronics, automotive electronics, telecommunications devices, and medical electronic products.

Its dual vision alignment system achieves a placement accuracy of ±40μm at ±3σ for standard chip components. This level of precision supports assembly of fine-pitch integrated circuits and small-form-factor surface mount devices.
The machine uses programmable motion control to adjust placement speed and acceleration profiles according to component size and sensitivity, reducing placement deflection and damage risk for delicate components.
The SM481 handles surface mount components ranging from 0402 (01005 inch) chip components up to 42mm square components with a maximum height of 15mm. This range covers standard resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, and common connector packages.
For PCB handling, the machine supports standard board sizes of 460mm in length and 400mm in width. With optional configuration, it can accommodate PCBs up to 1,500mm in length, supporting long board assembly for applications such as LED strips and industrial control boards.
The machine supports up to 120 feeder slots based on 8mm tape feeders, and is compatible with docking cart configurations holding 112 feeders for offline setup and fast product changeover. It works with both electric and pneumatic Samsung SM series feeders, allowing reuse of existing feeder assets for production lines upgrading from older Samsung SMT equipment.
The control system supports programmable placement parameters, including pickup position, placement coordinate, component rotation angle, and vacuum level. Operators can save and recall product programs for repeat production orders, reducing setup time for product changeover.
Each machine is packed in a wooden case suitable for international sea and air freight, with internal shock absorption and moisture protection to prevent damage during transit. Delivery is available via UPS, DHL, FedEx, or other freight methods specified in the purchase order.
